LG.Philips Displays (Hong Kong) has developed a reportedly cost-efficient heater for Electroni Guns, a component of the CRT. The heater reduces material costs by 30% and improves heating efficiency, the company reports. The heater will be incorporated into the company’s China, Mexico and Korea plants.

The Electron Gun contains three cathodes, one each for red, green and blue signals. Its main function is to generate electrons and to focus them in small beams. Inside the tube is the Deflection Yoke (DY) that deflects three electron beams in horizontal and vertical directions to have electron beams all over the CRT’s screen. The Electron Gun uses thermion releasing way and heating materials to release electron. The heater is an essential component in this process.
