Toronto-based Revolution Display Systems designed and delivered scrolling signage for on-stage display during the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' (AMPAS) Oscar ceremony. The company says this marked the this type of system’s debut at the event.
The seven-year-old company developed a mechanical and electronic control system that provides module-by-module programming of images to multiple signs. Working on a short production timeline, Revolution worked with AMPAS stage designers, technology co-ordinators, printers and set builders to ensure the scrollers' content integration. The scrollers were controlled from an operations truck stationed more than 2,000 ft from the stage. Transitions coincided with pre-arranged cues and camera angles.
Revolution's scrollers are installed at Toys 'R' Us in Times Square, where 165 scrolling signs comprise the flagship location's façade. Forty units are integrated into the 18-story Media Tower at the Toronto Eaton Centre.
